General information only
The content of this site is patient education. It describes the layers of the neck, how a complaint is assigned to one of them, and what each option costs in time, recovery and risk. It is not a diagnosis, it is not a treatment recommendation for any individual, and it does not create a doctor-patient relationship.
No substitute for examination
Whether your own skin still springs back, which compartment the fullness under your chin lies in, whether a prominent structure is a gland or fat, and how much of the border between jaw and neck is anatomy rather than change are findings that can only be established by examining you. Reading this site cannot substitute for that, and a plan made from a website alone is a plan made without information.
Results vary and are not guaranteed
Individual results differ, and no surgeon and no website can guarantee an outcome. Relaxing a muscle does not remove fat, removing fat does not tighten skin, tightening skin does not remove it, and removing skin does not move a gland or change the height of the hyoid. Any statement that appears to promise more than that should be treated with suspicion wherever you encounter it.
If something is wrong after surgery
If you have had neck surgery and develop a neck that is swelling rapidly and becoming tight, difficulty breathing or swallowing, bleeding that does not stop, fever, spreading redness, a wound that opens, or weakness at the corner of the mouth, contact the treating team or seek emergency care immediately rather than waiting for a routine appointment.
